About this site
A software vendor writing about its own subject area. Here is exactly who we are, what that means for what you read here, and the rules we hold ourselves to.
Who publishes this site
sshmount.com is published by OnePasswordManager Ltd, a company that makes SSHMount, a paid macOS application sold on the Mac App Store. We are a software vendor writing about the subject area our product sits in. That is a normal thing to do and it is also a conflict of interest, so it is stated at the top of this page, in the footer of every page, and again inside any article that names a competing product. You can reach a human at support@sshmount.it; it is the same address that handles support for the app, and it is read by the people who build it.
Why this site exists separately from the product site
The product site is sshmount.it. It answers questions about the application: what it does, what it costs, how to get help. This site answers a different kind of question — why an SSH key is being refused, what a Mac writes into a directory on your server, which tool suits a way of working. Keeping those apart is partly editorial hygiene and partly practical: an article that has to sell something while explaining something ends up doing neither well. Nothing is sold on this domain, there is no sign-up, no newsletter and no tracking. When a page here needs product detail it links to the product site rather than importing it.
The rules this site is written under
- Every technical claim is linked to a primary source. That means the manual page a vendor actually ships, the project's own release notes, or the vendor's own documentation — not a summary of them on a third site. Where we quote, we quote exactly and say where it came from.
- No invented data. There are no ratings on this site, no review counts, no testimonials, no user numbers and no case studies. SSHMount is a new product with no public reviews, and manufacturing social proof would be both a lie and a search guidelines violation.
- No fabricated prices. The App Store sets SSHMount's price per country, so no figure would be true everywhere and we publish none. Where a competitor's price is quoted it is dated and linked.
- Competitors get honest verdicts. Where another tool is the better choice, the page says so and says why. This is not generosity; a comparison that always reaches the same conclusion is worthless to a reader and transparently so.
- Every page has to be useful on its own. If an article only makes sense as a route to downloading something, it does not belong here. The test we apply before publishing is whether the reader's problem is solved even if they never install anything of ours.
- No JavaScript is required to read anything. The whole site is static HTML. There is no analytics script, no font loaded from another origin, and no third-party request of any kind.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we would like to know and we will fix it. Technical writing about a moving target goes stale — a manual page changes, a vendor ships a feature, a default flips — and a page that was accurate in August may not be in March. Each article carries the date it was last checked against current documentation, and that date is generated from the content itself rather than from the last time the site was deployed, so it means what it says. Corrections go to support@sshmount.it. If you maintain a product mentioned on this site and we have described it inaccurately, write to us and we will correct it.
About the application itself
SSHMount mounts SSH and SFTP servers as volumes in the macOS Finder and includes an SSH terminal, without macFUSE and without a kernel extension. It requires macOS 13 Ventura or later, runs on Apple silicon and Intel, and is sandboxed. It speaks SSH and SFTP only — not S3, not WebDAV, not any cloud storage service — which is a real limitation and one we point out on the comparison page where it matters. The full description lives on sshmount.it.
There are several unrelated open-source projects also called sshmount. If you arrived looking for one of those, this page points you at them directly.
